An age limit has been established for Azerbaijani Constitutional Court judges. At a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, the Law "On Constitutional Court" has been amended accordingly.
Draft amendments under the legislative initiatives were sent to parliament by President Ilham Aliyev, Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Chairman Ali Huseynli said.
"The proposed changes define the cases of early termination of office of judges of the Constitutional Court. Powers of the Constitutional Court judges cease when they reach 70 years old, and besides, if they commit acts that damage the honor and dignity of the judges of the Constitutional Court," he said.
He said an age limit for judges of other courts in Azerbaijan was established at 65 years and in exceptional cases at 70 years. The latter is the CIS and European standard.
At today's meeting, parliament adopted in second reading bills on the state protection of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies and on the status of municipalities.
