Car and spare part production plants are under threat of closure in Iran, chairman of the Iranian Auto Parts Manufacturers Association Farhad Behnia said in a statement, İSNA agency said today.
Behnia said that if it happens, around 700,000 workers will be unemployed. He expressed regret that Iran's car and spare part manufacturing industry is rapidly approaching a crisis.
He added that the reason is that the state does not provide financial assistance and benefits in this sphere.
"Despite the fact that the state has allocated about $2 billion, the plants have not received the funds yet," he said.
Iran's car and spare part manufacturing industry is one of the largest industrial areas.
According to official statistics, car production in the country declined by 36 per cent for the first three months of this year. According to the unofficial data, the figure is 50 per cent.
