Committee of Georgian Parliament recognized 180 people as political prisoners

The Human Rights Committee of the Parliament of Georgia adopted a decision on the issue of political prisoners and political refugees.

Some 180 people were recognized as political prisoners and 22 - political refugees from 220 examined cases. The latter includes Badri Bitsadze, Kibar Khalvashi Mikhail Kareli and Irakli Okruashvili.

The list of political prisoners includes footballer George Demetradze, opposition activist Melor Vachnadze and others.

Committee considered 220 cases in two weeks. Cases in which defects were found will be considered during another two additional weeks.

Lists of political prisoners and political refugees will be submitted to Parliament for approval.
