Azerbaijani Forum makes statement after Freedom House’s biased report

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 17 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum (ASAİF) made a statement in connection with the biased report of Freedom House, an organisation told Trend today.

'Freedom House's report, prepared as always on the basis of information from sources operating by order of individual groups, does not differ from previous reports', the message said. 'Some foreign circles, organisations, envious of the full development and increasing international image of Azerbaijan, continue to distort the country's reality trying to form a wrong opinion to the world.

'Azerbaijan has recently hosted the Humanitarian Forums and international cultural and sporting events. This irritates those who do not like the country. While spreading false information, they call into question the objectivity of organisations, preparing these reports, including Freedom House'.

According to the information, this organisation's report exaggerates different events in Azerbaijan and presents the 'facts' allegedly confirming the violation of human rights in Azerbaijan.

"The most controversial point in the report is that Azerbaijan is listed as a 'restricted' country, while Armenia is referred to as a 'partially free' country," ASAIF said. "Apparently, those who prepared the report did not consider the violation of human rights and freedoms in Armenia. Many citizens of that country are leaving. In response, we invite Freedom House" to assess the situation with Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons."
