Azerbaijan became a member of the UN World Tourism Organization's Executive Council.
The Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev is participating in the UN WTO's General Assembly 20th session, which is held in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

At the meeting on Thursday, the issue of Azerbaijan's membership in the WTO Executive Council was discussed, and Azerbaijan's membership was approved, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan's press service reported on Thursday.

According to the report, of the four states of the continent (Azerbaijan, Germany, Serbia and Bulgaria) 25 votes were given in favor of Azerbaijan's membership in the WTO Executive Council.

In addition, during the session, it was decided to hold the meeting of the European Commission in Baku in 2014.

The report said that during discussion of these issues, the Armenian delegation expressed their protest, but was not supported by other participants.

"Achievements within the World Tourism Organization's Executive Council are indication of the growing influence of Azerbaijan in world tourism, as well as the improvement of the image of our country," the statement said.
