Minister: Funds allocated for youth in Azerbaijan grow 100 times

Since 2003, funds allocated for youth from Azerbaijan’s state budget have increased 100 times, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov said, Trend reports.

Rahimov made the remarks at the 5th Inter-Parliamentary Union Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Baku on Dec. 14.

The minister noted that 60 percent of the country’s population account for people under the age of 30.

“In 2001, the law on youth was adopted in Azerbaijan, and even earlier, in 1994, the Ministry of Youth and Sports was created,” he said. “All this is an indicator of attention for young people.”

Rahimov stressed that over the past 10 years, 41 youth centers have been established, there are more than 300 NGOs operating in the field of youth in the country.

“Azerbaijan provides support to young entrepreneurs, conditions are created for young people to build their businesses,” he said. “Azerbaijani youth are represented in the Council of Europe, the UN, the EU, in more than 30 international humanitarian organizations.”
