BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. I congratulate all the athletes and coaches who worked hard to present their routines according to the new Code of Points, Farid Gayibov, European Gymnastics President said, Trend reports citing his statement.
"As we all know, the April month brings suspense to the European Gymnastics events we have ahead. I was pleased to attend the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup held in Baku (AZE) on April 22-24, 2022, and I was delighted to see 31 countries participating at this spectacular event.
I congratulate all the athletes and coaches who worked hard to present their routines according to the new Code of Points. Their efforts were met by spectators with great enthusiasm, and the atmosphere of skilful execution of complicated exercises brought admiration and excitement to the fans.
As the season of the World Cup series comes to an end, the continental Championships will take up their turn to showcase their stars. Having gained experience from the World Cup series, I believe that our gymnasts will demonstrate their performances with more confidence as they compete for the Continental titles.
In May, the European gymnasts will have a final preparation stage before the European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling in Rimini (ITA) from 1 to 5 June, followed by the Rhythmic Europeans in Tel Aviv (ISR) from 15 to 19 June.
The Council Meeting of the International Gymnastics Federation will also take place in May (Dubrovnik / CRO / May 26 & 27) preceded by the Executive Committee meetings. After its postponement in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Council meeting was held by video conference in 2021. Now, we are returning to the ‘normal life’ format for both Council and Executive Committee meetings. Once again, we have an opportunity to make decisions for the further development of Gymnastics following in-person discussions.
But as we are leaving the pandemic behind us, sadly we are confronted with another unfortunate tragedy. As I have mentioned previously, the conflict on the European continent is a major concern for the whole world, as well as for our organisation. It has a great impact on our gymnasts, their training and attendance to major competitions worldwide. I truly hope that peace will prevail soon and everyone who is affected by the conflict may safely return to stability and normality," the statement said.
