An article on the shooting of a leopard on the territory of the village of Akhtakhana of Jalilabad District of Azerbaijan was received by the District Branch 1 of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of the Country on 27 November.
As a result of the investigations held, it was clear that the leopard was shot by an inhabitant of Mr. Sadigov on 25 November, Trend reports referring to the Ministry.
This incident occurred on the land belonging to another inhabitant of the village, Mr. Abdulayev, on which sheep were being tended.
The leopard was shot between 05.0006.00 a. m. where the body remained until 17:00 p.m., when an inhabitant of the village of Govuzbulag of Jalilabad District, Mr. Naghiyev, heard of the incident, removed the animal and skinned it.
A hunting rifle marked Tula was found on Mr. Sadigov and the leopard skin was confiscated from Mr. Naghiyev. The apprehended persons were charged with the sum of 3,300 AZN for causing damage to the environment.
A report on the killed leopard is detailed in The Red Book of Azerbaijan and has been added to the red list of the International Environment Protection Association.
