Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Chairman of the Center for Protection of Protection of Conscience and Religious Freedom (DEVAMM), Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, protested against the decision of the Caucasus Muslim Department prohibiting azan from being voiced through voice-increasing device.

He stressed that azan is an integral part of the religious freedom. According to him, it is a challenge to praying. "These rules have been specified in the Constitution of the Country and international legal documents. Prohibiting azan is a rough violation of human rights," he said.

Ibrahimoglu said that there is not a ban for azan anywhere in the world. "In Europe, USA and other part of the world azan is voiced in time and no-one initiates to reconsider this commonly recognized practice," he said.

Ibrahimoglu called as groundless the statement of the Caucasus Muslim Department that it takes care about the population.
