Religious Situation in Northwest Azerbaijan Under Control, State Committee Senior Official
Azerbaijan, Sheki / corr Trend E.Guliyev / The religious situation in the northwest of Azerbaijan is stable and is under the government's control. Gunduz Ismayilov, the head of the division of the State on Work with Religious Establishments said at a workshop organized in Sheki on 31 August.
Evidently, the situation became more dangerous, because of the activation of several extremist religious trends in the region, Ismaylov said. Nearly two weeks ago, 'maps' of the fictional country of 'Lezgistan' were sent to people's mobile phones through MMS in the Balakan District, in west Azerbaijan.
The district's police department carried out the investigation into the case.
