Uzbekistan, Ukraine agree to cooperate in walnut growing

Uzbekistan and the Ukrainian Nut Association signed a cooperation agreement during the international conference "Modern innovations in planting of profitable nut gardens held in Kiev, Jahon news reported.

The parties discussed the latest approaches to the technology of creating intensive gardens, advanced methods and agro practices, practical issues on planting walnut and hazelnut gardens.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan presented at the exhibition the domestically produced pistachios and almonds.

The parties agreed to hold a joint conference in Tashkent in 2018 on the development of walnut growing sector, where a wide range of innovative equipment for processing products, modern technologies for obtaining seedlings and new industrial varieties of plants will be presented.

In June 2017, the Uzbek president signed a decree "On the establishment and organization of the Association of Walnut Producers and Exporters".

The president tasked to develop and adopt a program of measures to further increase the production of walnut for the period 2017-2020.

The president instructed to allocate up to 10,000 hectares for the planting of walnut seedlings. Plantations will be created in Andijan, Kashkadarya, Jizzakh, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Tashkent and Ferghana regions.

The president ordered to issue loans of up to $ 50 million to finance projects to plant walnut plantations.
