BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. The value of imports of goods by Azerbaijan increased by 29.7 percent to $13.5 billion in 2022, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, of the total import value, $5.7 billion accounted for consumer goods, of which $2.1 billion was for food products.

The imports in the non-oil and gas sector grew by 24.7 percent - up to $11 billion. In its structure, the imports of metal products grew by 52.8 percent, butter - 38.6 percent, cereals - 32.9 percent, vegetable oils - 32.9 percent, furniture products - 32.1 percent, and pharmaceutical products - 23.5 percent. percent.

Besides, imports of lumber products increased by 18.6 percent, sugar - 16.2 percent, perfumery and cosmetic products - 13.6 percent, stone and glass products - 11.9 percent, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages - 8.4 percent, detergents - 8.3 percent, cars - 8.2 percent and tobacco products - 6.8 percent.

Azerbaijan reduced the import of equipment and mechanical devices by 24 percent, ships, boats and floating structures - by 17.9 percent, counting machines - by 15.3 percent and vegetable products - by one percent.

Imports of machinery and goods through foreign investments amounted to 4.4 percent, or $600 million.

Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover in 2022 amounted to $54.4 billion. The positive balance in the oil and gas sector of foreign trade turnover amounted to $35.4 billion, while the non-oil and gas sector had a deficit of $8 billion.

In the foreign trade balance of Azerbaijan in 2022, the positive balance amounted to $27.4 billion. Last year, the country conducted trade relations with 189 countries of the world: 10.3 percent of foreign trade fell to the share of the CIS countries, and 89.7 percent to other countries.
