Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Between January to August, Azerbaijan transported over 13.6mln tons of cargo, which is almost by 11% less than in the same period of 2006, according to the State Customs Committee. Export of cargos in this period made up almost 8mln tons, while import exceeded 5.7mln tons.
Sea transport transported 547,100 tons of cargo, railway - 2.2mln tons, automobile - 481,900 tons, air - 2,600 tons, pipelines - 4.6mln tons.
Within the 8 months 3.7mln tons of cargo was conveyed via Azerbaijan as transit goods, which is by 14% less than between January to August 2006. Some 1mln tons of cargo was transported as transit goods via Azerbaijan to Switzerland and Italy, 790,400 tons to Georgia, 287,900 tons to Tajikistan, 136,300 to Iran, 97,300 tons to Russia, 162,800 tons to Turkey, 90,600 tons to Turkmenistan, and 45,100 tons to Kazakhstan.
