Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend / Representatives of Ernst & Young and StatoilHydro, a global producer of oil and gas made a joint presentation to 4th year students of the Special Talent Group (STG) at the Azerbaijani State Economic University on 7 December 2007.
Emin Khalilov, the Senior Financial Adviser at StatoilHydro, Jamal Hasanov, the audit senior at Ernst & Young and Sohrab Farhadov, the course instructor and audit senior at Ernst & Young discussed accounting issues in oil and gas industry with the students. The discussion involved issues such as developments in the oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan, StatoilHydro's activities in Azerbaijan, and some specific accounting issues as well. It was noted that the accounting of oil & gas issues is evolving and various national and international systems tend to converge of treatment. Therefore it is important for students to be updated on these developments. Students with a strong background in accounting held lively discussions with the guests.
The presentation was held as part of the accounting topics course organized by Ernst & Young, a leading global professional services firm. This is the second year of the course for the STG students. The presentation was built upon the experience of a similar presentation made by the StatoilHydro representative last year. Curriculum organizers believe that such innovative techniques need to be incorporated to the standard curriculum to establish a sense of real-life examples in the academic field and such initiatives must be encouraged. This also opens new opportunities for recruitment to both students and corporate representatives.
