Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry will complete negotiations with German Mercedes manufacturer over the supply of 1,000 S-class Mercedes cars to Baku to be used as taxis, the head of the Transport Policy & Economy Department at the Ministry Sadraddin Mammadov said on 14 January.
According to Mammadov, the Ministry is supporting private transport enterprises in striking a deal to purchase modern taxis for Baku.
Mercedes taxis will be equipped with meters and will be managed through the GPS navigation system within the framework of the Intellectual Transport Management system set up in Baku. An electronic map will be created for this purpose. Mammadov denied that the new taxis in Baku would lead to an increase in prices for taxi services stating the tariffs would remain the same.
Introduction of new transport facilities will enable to increase the quality of the services, to remove from exploitation the transport unsuitable for being used as taxi, which besides lack of comfort has problems with security and pollutes the environment, Mammadov said.
