Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Ogtay Shiraliyev, the Azerbaijani Health Minister, will participate in the 122nd session of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) on 21-26 January, the Health Ministry reported.
"No special issue on Azerbaijan was included into the agenda of the session. During the session, Shiraliyev will meet with the administration and representatives of the WTO," a source at the Ministry said.
The agenda of the session includes the climate and health changes, readiness to pandemic influenza, mechanism of overcoming potential risks of poliomyelitis.
The Executive Committee includes 32 members, technically qualified in the health field. The members of the Committee are elected for 3 years. The main session of the Committee, at which the agenda for upcoming session of the Health Assembly is coordinated and resolutions are adopted for submission to the Health Assembly, is usually held in January. Another one, which is shorter, is held in May, immediately after the session of the Health Assembly. The key functions of the Committee are the implementation of the decisions and policy of the Health Assembly, provision of consultations and general assistance in the assembly's work.
Since 2007, Shiraliyev has been the Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the WHO.
