Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / Christopher Martius, a newly- appointed coordinator for Central Asia and South Caucasus of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) will visit Baku in March.
The Scientific-Agrarian Centre of the Agricultural Ministry reported that the two-day visit of the coordinator is scheduled for 30 March. "The key target of the visit is to discuss cooperation prospects," the Centre said.
Martius will confer with different departments of the Azerbaijani Agricultural Ministry and will implement joint projects.
ICARDA, established in 1977, is one the fifteen centres located worldwide and supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The Organization with its headquarters in Aleppo ( Syria) is working through a network of cooperation with national, regional and international institution, universities, NGOs, as well as ministries in developing countries and prosperous research institutes in industrial countries.
The Scientific-Agrarian Centre of the Azerbaijani Agricultural Ministry has a cooperation document with CGIAR signed at the end of the 1990s. The following projects, and many others, were implemented in Azerbaijan through the assistance of CGIAR: 'Examination of improved water-drip technology with the participation of farmers to grow soybeans in the Tartar region', 'Examination of growing fruits gardens in mountains in Shamakha region and to attract farmers,".
Azerbaijani specialists participate in training abroad annually at the expense of the funds from the Organization.
