Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 March / corr Trend U.Ismayoilova / The State Control Service in Consumer Market at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development is developing a new Draft Law on Consumer Rights, Khalig Mammadov, the head of State Service said on 18 March.
"We hope that the new draft law, which will protect the consumers' rights at a higher level, will be adopted by the end of 2008," Mammadov said.
The existing law on consumers' rights was adopted in 1995.
According to Mammadov, basis of the draft law will include results of the conference- dedicated to the protection of consumers' rights, where three milestones were mentioned:
- improvement of the legislative base in line with WTO principles,
- development of state program on consumers' rights protection in 2008-2012,
- improvement of the standardization and certification system in line with WTO principles.
Earlier Eyyub Huseynov, the head of Union of Free Consumers, has acme out with the same proposal for the improvement of the law on consumer rights, noting that the exiting law does not protect the consumers' rights and contributes to monopolies in the consumer markets.
Samir Dadashov, the head of Anti-monopoly Service at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development, denies the presence of monopolies in the country's food market.
