Business Materials 9 April 2008 13:33 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 April / Trend / Azerbaijan is still waiting for the access for the ships of Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company to the inland waters of Russia via the Volga-Don Canal, where the navigation usually starts from 15 April, the Azerbaijani Government reported on 8 April.

So far, the issue is under consideration of the Russian Government.

The Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company intends to obtain a license for the passage of 27 vessels through internal waters of Russia. The license is planned to be used for the Company's vessels going from the Black Sea to Caspian Sea.

At present, only one vessel has the license to go from Caspian Sea and back to the Black. It is necessary to infuse certain changes in the Russian law acts in order to resolve this problem.

In 2007 the company obtained 28 licenses from Russia. However, in spite of the licenses Azerbaijan hoped to sign long-term agreement for passage via internal waters of Russia. To solve this issue, Russia has to change both its Maritime Code and the laws.
