"Under measures taken by the Azeri Tax Ministry, the number of taxpayers in debt dropped significantly compared to 2007," Tax Minister Fazil Mammadov said at a board meeting.
In 2008, procedures were implemented to improve the system of paying taxes, including compulsory penalties for debt, dispatches of notifications, mandatory inventories of debtors' property and sales at open auctions.
Important steps were taken to improve legislation and administration in collecting tax debt. Optimum methods and work procedures were applied in 2008.
Instructions for handling debtors' banking accounts were also sent in electronic form to Azerdamiryolbank, Texnikabank, Rabitabank, Unibank, Bank of Baku, and Standardbank and their branches.
