Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 3 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The Baku Metro plans to open the second extra exits at three subway stations, a source at the metro said on Feb. 3.

It is planned to construct extra exits by means of the World Bank (WB). The source refused to speak about details of the project.

"We plan to build extra exits at Elmlar Akademiyasi subway, Sahil subway and Ichari Shahar subway," the source said.

Probably, construction of an extra exit at Elmlar Akademiyasi subway, near the Baku State University will begin by late 2009. First, this extra exit will be built.

After it, it is planned to construct an extra exit at Sahil subway, near to Nasimi monument.

"Perhaps, the extra exit will be joined to an underground passage there," the source said.

The second exit from Ichari Shahar subway will be located around Azneft circle.

Financing may be implemented as part of improving transport management system in Baku. The WB has allocated $900,000 to the project.

A special working group led by WB Consultant Richard Podolski will be engaged in research to identify directions of transport movement.

After completing research, a project will be devised which can be wider than a project on intellectual system of transport management devised by the South Korean SK C& C consortium. The WB project will include some elements of underground transport (subway) and parking.

The Baku Metro plans to put the second exit of 28 May subway into exploitation in Salatin Asgarova St. in May.
