Mass staff reduction is not observed in the Azerbaijani oil and gas sector, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation Sattar Mehbaliyev said on May 7.
"If there is some staff reduction in this sector, they are connected with definite changes in these organizations and covers only employees who reached a pension age," Mehbaliyev said. "Besides, it means that people who are 70-80 must be dismissed, but it concerns the people who cannot normally fulfill labor duties."
Mehbaliyev commented on suspension of activities of Azerboru and Baku Steel Company and connected this fact with their problems to search production sale markets.
"These enterprises cannot find customers. Therefore, they cannot pay salaries of their employees. In this case, employees cannot complain, because this situation is connected with objective reasons," Mehbaliyev said.
He said at the present the government is conducting relevant work to improve enterprises' activities and "perhaps, their activities will be resumed in 6-2 months".
