Azerbaijan, Baku, June 9 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

Temporary interruptions in passenger buses' traffic in Baku are connected with the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry's replacing small and medium-size busses with big-capacity buses has not led to increase in number of passengers at the Baku Metro, a source at the metro said on June 9.

"We work in an ordinary regime. At present we do not observe increase in passengers' number, on the contrary, there is reduction due to holidays period," the source said.

At present the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Avtonagliyyatservis Department is developing new routes of bus traffic and if the need arises in the direction of some routes, changes will be made.

Small and medium-capacity buses are replaced with big-capacity buses of Korean DAEWOO production, more than 200 units of which have been received recently, the department said earlier.

A total of 49 new buses have already been launched on the route number 4, 125, 70, 169, 54 and 285.

The process of removing small buses in Baku's streets started last year. If earlier this innovation only concerned small vehicles, but now this process concerns also medium-size buses.

Full replacement of low capacity buses with medium and large will be completed by late 2009, the source said.
