In the first half year of 2009 the foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan rose by 22 percent as compared to same indices of 2008. Export exceeded import by 1.7 times, official Turkmen source announced.
In January to June 2009 the volume of capital investments assimilated from all financing sources rose by 2.5 times as compared to the same period of 2008.
Over seven months growth rate of the retail goods turnover was 114 percent as compared to the same period of last year.
Turkmenistan is one of key suppliers of natural gas to the Caspian region. Over the past period the country has intensified work over diversification of energy routes, which have been closed by main pipeline managed by Gasprom for a long time. Export of the Turkmen gas to China is likely to commence at the end of the year via the pipeline built through the territory of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Construction of additional branch to neighboring Iran has been launched.
