The dynamic development of Azerbaijan's economy served as a basis for successful tax reforms in 2009, Azerbaijani Tax Minister Fazil Mammadov said at a board meeting devoted to the ministry's activities last year and 2010 priorities. The ministry's official newspaper published Mammadov's report.
According to the official, the state budget received 4.114 billion manat via the ministry in 2009. The figure comprises 12 percent of the GDP and 39.8 percent of the total revenue. The budget received 2.327 billion manat from the non-oil sector. The figure exceeds the 2008 index by 70.2 million manat.
He said taxpayers have broadly accepted IT technology in the tax administration. The number of VAT payers logged into the e-exchange was 99.4 percent.
Last year, the ministry signed agreements with Iran, Kuwait and Greece to promote documents eliminating double taxation. Agreements signed with the Netherlands and Luxembourg entered into force. Agreements signed with Bulgaria, Estonia, Korea, Hungary, Qatar and Tajikistan were launched in 2008.
