Azerbaijan Railways to resume train movement in southern direction

JSC Azerbaijan Railways intends to restore the movement of trains on the route Baku-Astara in the coming days. The movement of trains was suspended from May 9 due to flood in the  Kur River, Company's Head Arif Asgarov said.

The movement of trains will be resumed with the speed limit.

The company has already completed work on the restoration of four (one on the line Osmanli-Azadkend and the remaining three on the line-Azadkend-Salmanli) from five sites that were previously opened to ensure the flow of water. The company also laid metal pipes to redirect the flow of water. The company conducts work on the closure of the last point opened on the line Azadkend-Salmanli.

A 38-km-cable-connection, two kilometers from the signal cables and eight kilometers of overhead lines and other work will be replaced.

As reported earlier, the company planned to build two 2,000-mm concrete pipes, install topsides (rails, sleepers, fixers and ballast), liquidate drawdown on the 23-kilometer stretch, lay six passage of water pipes with a length of 10.5 meters and a diameter of 1.78 meters, restore power lines and communications to eliminate the consequences of floods on the railway line Shirvan-Osmanli-Astara.
