The EU and Azerbaijan are preparing for negotiations as part of twinning projects to improve Azerbaijani exports to Europe, Azerbaijani Deputy Economic Development Minister Sevinj Hasanova said today.

"Negotiations will soon begin on other projects like our project project  on Supportto the Improvement of Legal and Technical Aspects of Food Quality and Safety Assurance and Certification Requirements of Azerbaijani Fishery Products," she added. "Since this area is a priority for the ministry, we will continue our work in this direction."

According to Hasanova, the Netherlands also recently presented agricultural cooperation proposals to Azerbaijan.

EU Ambassador Roland Kobia said the EU-Azerbaijan cooperation should be continued to expand the range of Azerbaijani fish products exported to EU, as well as other products.

The twining project began on Oct. 1, 2008 with the support of the Dutch and Latvian authorities. The project aimed to support economic development by improving food quality and safety in the fishery industry, enhancing consumer protection and increasing competitiveness on international markets. Azerbaijan received permission to export caviar to the EU on Jan. 1.
