Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 10 /Trend, I.Khalilova/
On Friday, the Azerbaijani parliamentary committees on economic policy, legal policy and state building recommended the draft laws on joining three international conventions on traffic signs and signals to submit for the ratification of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
The first convention was signed in Vienna in 1968, while the other two European conventions were adopted as additions to it in 1971 and 1972.
The need to ratify these conventions is linked with the fact that since 1990s, Azerbaijan has started taking large-scale events for the construction of highways in different directions in accordance with international standards.
As part of the conventions, the country will undertake obligations to bring the traffic signs and signals into conformity with European standards.
According to the director of Azeryolservis JSC Javid Gurbanov, major changes in Azerbaijan on road signs and signals are expected.
"250,000 units of new road signs are required to be installed in connection with the improvement of highways in the territory of Azerbaijan. In total, there are seven groups of signs - to prevent, prohibit, service, guide, additional to those signs, etc.," said Gurbanov.
