The Kazakh Economic Development Ministry jointly with the Agriculture Ministry and the Competition Agency will develop measures to stabilize the prices of staple food products, Kazakh Economic Development Minister Zhanar Aitzhanova said on Tuesday at a regular governmental meeting.

"Given the intensifying external factors on inflation processes, the local authorities will take measures for maintaining prices on socially important food products. Our proposal will be submitted to the government as soon as possible," Aitzhanova said.

She said that according to the World Bank's data the price index for food products in the world has grown by 29 percent compared to the previous year.

"It's just three percent below the highest level of growth in food prices in the world that we observed in June 2008," she noted.
