Azerbaijan, Austria should expand cooperation

Azerbaijan and Austria have the potential to expand bilateral relations, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov said at the Azerbaijani-Austrian business forum in Baku today.

"The progress achieved and prospects for cooperation will be discussed at the business forum," he said. "Both countries have significant potential to expand these prospects."

He said that Austria has broad experience in such areas as solid waste management, telecommunications, tourism and culture.

"The forum will also stimulate the creation and intensification of contacts between representatives of the private sector of both countries," he said.

Over 40 businessmen of both countries attended the forum, he said.

The co-chairman of the Azerbaijani-Austrian intergovernmental commission on cooperation in economy, agriculture, industry, engineering and technology, Ali Abbasov said that at present, the two countries have signed 28 agreements, including six intergovernmental documents.

"At present, several documents covering areas such as telecommunications, solid waste management and others are under preparation," he said.

Vienna's Vice-Mayor and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Renate Brauner said that Vienna uses an innovative approach in these areas, and that Azerbaijan may show interest in these areas.

An Austrian delegation will hold several meetings at the Ministries of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, "Tamiz Shahar" company on September 19-20.
