Azerbaijan prepares to adopt 20 national standards for tourism

Additional 20 national standards in the field of tourism are expected to be adopted in Azerbaijan by the end of the year, the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents told Trend on Wednesday. Currently there are around seven standards in this sphere.

"Now particular attention is paid to tourism in connection with the Year of Tourism in Azerbaijan and Eurovision-2012 to be conducted in Baku. The State Committee and Ministry of Culture and Tourism have drafted 20 standards to be adopted by the end of year," the State Committee on Standardization said.

These standards will mainly regulate the quality of services provided in hotels, restaurants and other tourism facilities. "There are also draft standards regulating the process and conditions for the construction of hotels," said the State Committee.

The State Committee on Standardization includes a technical committee for standardization of tourism services and accommodation (TK 06). The technical committee consists of three subcommittees - on the hotel business, tourism activities and tourism route.

The technical committee prepares draft standards and other legal documents governing the tourism sector, and conducts their expertise. In addition, the tasks of the technical committee include drawing up annual and perspective plans for standardization in this sphere with using international experience, etc.
