Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has urged the Agriculture Ministry to take the necessary measures to eliminate inefficiencies as soon as possible, Turkmen TV said today. The directive came during a live video meeting between the president, regional officials and governmental representatives.

'The president gave specific instructions to take immediate measures to develop agriculture to improve the industry, to widely introduce the best international practice in this area and in general, improve the efficiency and profitability of the country's domestic agro industrial complex', the report said.

President Berdimuhamedov stressed that some regions lag behind the schedule of agro-technical measures and ordered officials to take the necessary measures to accelerate operations. At present, arable work on the Turkmen cotton fields is under completion.

Turkmenistan prepared more than 1.50 tons of raw cotton in 2011. There are similar plans for this year. Traditionally, the country exports it to China, Russia, Great Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.

About 1.600 million tons of food grain will also be harvested from 860 hectares of fields in 2012.
