Foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy increase

The total volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy in January-April 2012 amounted to 829.1 million manat, which is 26.6 percent more than the same period of 2011, Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said on Thursday.

In January-April, 93.3 percent (773.4 million manat) of investments in Azerbaijan's economy made by foreign countries and international organizations accounted for investors from the UK, U.S., Japan, Norway, Czech Republic, Turkey and France.

As before, the UK continues to preserve its leading position in this list. Its share in total foreign investments hit 46 percent, while its investments amounted to 381.77 million manat.

Investments of the U.S. amounted to 138.83 million manat (16.8 per cent), Japan - 96.3 million manat (11.6 percent), Norway - 52.69 million manat (6.4 percent), Turkey - 41.65 million manat (5 percent), Czech Republic - 37.59 million manat (4.5 percent), France - 24.6 million manat (3 percent), German -1.107.5 million manat, Italy - 118,000 manat, Saudi Arabia - 6.09 million manat (0.7 percent).

From international financial institutions, the World Bank invested 25.65 million manat with share of 3.1 percent, the Asian Development Bank - 18.15 million manat (2.2 percent).

The official exchange rate is 0.7858 manat to $1 on May 17.
