Azerbaijan, Baku, May 17 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry plans to complete the reconstruction of the Ganja ring road by the year's end, a source in the Transport Ministry told Trend on Thursday.

The reconstruction of the road is financed by an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan.

During the reconstruction, the highway will be transferred from the third category to the two-lane second category.

"During construction there were some delays due to technical problems, as well as adverse weather conditions," the source said.

The ADB Baku Office told Trend on Thursday that period of use of credit allocated by the Bank [$55.4 million] expired on April 30.

"If there is no appeal for an extension of the loan from the government of Azerbaijan, the funding will be suspended," the office stressed.

In turn, a source in the Ministry of Transport said that the appeal to the Bank is expected shortly.

According to another source, it is planned to extend the Ganja ring road by another two lanes at the expense of the South Korean Shinhan bank.

"Work on the road's further expansion will be completed in 2013," the source said.
