JSC Azeryolservis part of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has commissioned a new bridge across the Findigli River on the Gadabay-Giziltorpag-Gonagli road on Tuesday, JSC spokesman Punhan Mursaliyev told Trend on Tuesday.

"Due to heavy rains, piers of the old bridge became unusable and as a result of test works conducted by the JSC, a decision was regarding its emergency state," Mursaliyev said. "In this case, it was decided to build a new modern bridge".

Work on the construction of the bridge was carried out under the state programme on the socio-economic development of the country's regions for 2009-2013. Construction began in August 2011 when a temporary road was laid for the movement of vehicles across the river.

The length of the bridge is 96 metres, the width 10 metres, pedestrian walkways are 1.5 metres on both sides and there are five spans.

The bridge is of strategic importance as it links a border military unit with the region's centre, Mursaliyev said.
