Iran exported 900,000 tons of egg between the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2012) and now, Hedayat Asghari, the head of Iran's Egg Producers' Union said on Tuesday.

The figure would be raised up to 930,000 tons by the end of current year (March 19) which is 5 percent more than previous year, the IRNA News Agency quoted Asghari as saying.

Iran exported 870,000 tons of eggs during previous year, he added.

He went on to note that Iran exported 11,000 tons of eggs during the past two months.

Iran earns 1.3 dollar through selling one kilogram of eggs, Asghari said, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Afghanistan, with 5, 550 tons of eggs accounted for the largest share of Iran's egg exports.

Iraq, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were the other main destination markets for Iran's egg exports.

Asghari had previously said that there are limited markets for eggs in the region so there is tight competition between exporter countries to win these markets.

"Currently Afghanistan, Iraq and Tajikistan are the biggest importers of eggs in the region and they have good markets for Iranian exporters. But India, Pakistan and Turkey are dominating them," he said.

Iran is one of the biggest producers of egg in the Middle East.
