Iran’s textile exports up by 30 per cent

Iran's textile industry exported over 212,000 tons of goods (including machine-made carpets, color, and machinery) worth $1.55 billion) in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, official at the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry Nematollah Mardani said on Saturday.

The figures show 29.7 and 1.4 per cent increase in terms of weight and value, respectively in comparison to its preceding year, the IRNA News Agency quoted Mardani as saying.

Machine-made flooring, clothing, and threads were the main exported products.

Mardani put the country's total textile output value at over $4 billion.

Iran also imported 472,300 tons of textile products worth $1.285 billion in the mentioned period, which is 11.7 and 10.2 per cent less compare to its preceding year in term of weight and value, respectively.

In October 2012, Iranian industry ministry official Mehdi Eslampanah said that regional countries, as well as the South America are the main targets for Iranian textile products.

More than 9,770 industrial enterprises are working in different fields including textile, clothing, leather and shoes, the report said.

Carpet, shoes and leather materials are among the textile products exported to other countries.
