Prices of tea and beans in Iran for the week ended on June 28 increased by 100.5 percent and 107.3 percent compared to the same period in the previous year, the Mehr News Agency reported.
According to a report released by the Central Bank of Iran, dairy products, eggs, rice, and fruits rose by 43 percent, 68 percent, 63 percent, and 26 percent respectively, year on year.
According to the report, chicken, domestically-produced and imported rice increased by 9.3 percent, 1.1 percent, and 1.6 percent respectively in the mentioned week compared to its preceding week, while red meat, sugar, imported tea, and vegetable oil remained stable.
Prices of staple foods in Iran will likely rise in Iran as the administration will no longer allocate U.S. dollar at the exchange rate of 12,260 rials for importing rice, meat, milk, and edible oil, the Mehr News Agency reported.
The administration of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has officially announced that it will pay U.S. dollar at the Forex Center rate, which is currently about 24,000 rials.
First-Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said that under the current severe economic sanctions against the country, the administration is committed to support low-income strata of society.
Meanwhile, MP Abdolkarim Hashemi said that the Iranian administration is facing problem in providing money for paying cash subsidies to the public.
"For the time being, the government is providing necessary money out of sources other than freeing up prices based on the subsidy reform plan," he noted.
The subsidy reform plan pays out $37 to Iranians while eliminating subsidies for fuels and some commodities.
