During monitoring which lasted a year and half, more than 600 observations were made on the project of reconstruction of the Western Europe - Western China international transit corridor, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan press-service reported on Nov.19.

It should be recalled that the monitoring of the project of reconstruction of the Western Europe - Western China international transit corridor was held over a year and half. The monitoring was carried out by the National Expert Council of Transparency and Sustainable Development. Its main objective was improving the life quality of the population whose interests are affected by the project.

"The monitoring has been very fruitful. Based on its results, the projects were corrected, on the recommendations of local residents necessary cattle droves, congresses, pathways for agricultural machinery were included in the project. This means many deficiencies that occurred during the design stage due to the lack of interaction with the local population, were excluded," Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications Mereke Pshembaev said.

The council's activities are being implemented on the basis of the memorandum signed in 2012 between the Committee for Roads MTC RK, the project management consultant, the construction supervision consultant and NGOs.

The main tasks of the council is detection, reporting, prevention and resolution of social, economic, labour, corruption and environmental violations in the road sections being reconstructed. The total monitoring covered four areas. It involved 642 people from 63 settlements and 1461 workers from 12 construction companies.

"As a result, the experts have identified more than 600 observations and monitoring results were sent to the construction companies which have already begun to eliminate the problems', the statement said.
