Iran’s suitcase trade to Azerbaijan increases by 24 percent

Iran has exported $18.162 million worth of goods to Azerbaijan in the form of suitcase trade during the 5-month period from March 21 to Aug. 23, which indicates an increase by 23.6 percent compared to the same period of preceding year (Iran's fiscal year starts on March 21).

Iranian Custom Administration's latest monthly report, released on Sept. 2 said that the country has exported goods worth $8.9 million via Astara, $4.83 million via Julfa, $3.99 million via Bilasuvar and $429,000 via Poldasht custom checkpoints to Azerbaijan during the mentioned period.

Iran has exported $31.52 million worth of goods to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) through the suitcase trade during March 21 - Aug. 23, which is 1.35 percent more compared to the first five months of the last Iranian fiscal year (March 21- Aug. 23, 2013).

The figure shares only 0.23 percent of the total export value of the country during the period for 2014.

During the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20), the same trade was worth $101.46 million which was 26.92 percent more than the suitcase trade exports in the preceding year.

Iran's total non-oil exports (excluding gas condensates) to foreign countries surpassed $13.782 billion during the 5-month period from March 21, which indicates an increase by 9.34 percent compared to the same months of the preceding year

Tehran also imported about $21.981 billion worth of goods during the period, which indicates a rise by 33.58 percent, compared to the 5-month period of the preceding year (21 March, 2013 to 23 August 2013).
