On 27-28 November two business breakfasts "Creating value through acquisitions and joint ventures in the oil and gas industry" for the oil & gas and energy sectors were held at KPMG in Baku. The first workshop was attended by heads and employees of investment and financial departments of companies - industry leaders, and the second - staff of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

Director of Transactions & Restructuring at KPMG in Moscow Oleg Ladnev was the moderator of workshops, and presentations were delivered by:

Sarah McNaught, Head of Energy and Natural Resources, KPMG in United Kingdom;

Lydia Petrashova, Head of Transactions & Restructuring, KPMG in Russia and the CIS;

Mushfig Aliyev, Head of Tax and Legal Department, KPMG in Azerbaijan;

John Kallaway, Head of Corporate Finance, KPMG in Russia and the CIS;

Petr Korolev, Director, Transactions & Restructuring;

Farid Isayev, Head of Legal Services, KPMG in Azerbaijan;

Timur Ganiyev, Associate Director, Corporate Finance, KPMG in Azerbaijan;

Teymur Dadashov, Consultant of Legal Services, KPMG in Azerbaijan;

KPMG experts told the participants about the most important aspects of creating value through acquisitions and joint ventures, including conducting financial due diligence, main risks of the investment process, the most important features and difficulties in valuation of a mining company, as well as planning and management of integration process to realize the value and alliance (joint ventures) strategy in the oil and gas sector. Workshop also discussed the development prospects of the oil and gas sector: long-term goals and objectives of the industry in Azerbaijan and in the world, need to develop oil and gas infrastructure, innovations and improving the competitiveness of Azerbaijani companies.
