UN to introduce innovative technologies to Turkmenistan’s industry

Turkmenistan's foreign ministry hosted a meeting with Li Yong, the director general of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Turkmen government said in a message May 6.
Yong, who visited Ashgabat on a working visit, spoke at the meeting about the national industrialization strategy and Turkmenistan's initiatives in this regard. He also expressed interest of his organization in the introduction of innovative technologies and advanced scientific and technological progress in Turkmenistan's industry.
During the talks, the parties expressed commitment to the active partnership between Turkmenistan and UNIDO.
They also mulled the bilateral cooperation in such areas as economy's diversification, industry, modernization and development of small and medium-sized enterprises, export potential strengthening, increasing goods competitiveness, infrastructure development, investment promotion, realization of joint investment projects, said the Turkmen government.
The parties also expressed interest in cooperating in the country's industrialization and development of modern technologies, which in turn leads to creation of new jobs and improvement of the potential of the employees of this area.
It was noted at the meeting that the industry based on sustainable development, the environmental protection, the implementation of capacity-building programs in biosafety are among a number of key objectives of Turkmenistan in the area of ecology, read the message.
According to a BP report, Turkmenistan, in terms of its natural gas reserves, ranks fourth in the world, and now has the opportunity to export it to China, Iran and Russia.
Ashgabat is aiming at diversifying the domestic economy, promoting the textile industry, oil products, and the country is actively developing the oil and gas chemistry areas.
