Iranian airlines move 40-45 million people a year, according to Hossein Akramian, member of Iran Airports Board of Directors.

Iran's civil aviation can accommodate 70 million and the effort is being made to realise it, he said, IRNA news agency reported January 13.

He noted Iran Airports Company has 54 airports, but regretted that there are not enough small-size passenger aircraft in Iran.

Iranian officials have said that the country needs about 600 planes within the next 10 years.

"In order for the materialization of the targets set in 2026 Perspective Plan, Iran will need at least 581 planes," said Maqsood Samani, the secretary of the Association of Iranian Airlines.

This number of planes, Samani said, will be necessary to answer the passenger needs, given that the demand for air travels as well as the transportation of cargoes by planes will surge in the near future.
