By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Over 1.7 million tons of transit cargo were transported through the territory of Turkmenistan in January-August 2016, according to the country’s state statistics committee.

“Most part of them was transported by railway (61.5 percent) and car (34 percent) transport,” the information said.

During the same period, 31,300 trucks passed via Turkmenistan, which is 6.2 percent more than in the corresponding period of 2015. Their greatest share, 52.3 percent, accounted for cars from Turkey, and 37.2 percent accounted for cars from Iran.

The cost of services rendered on transportation of transit, export and import cargo by rail in Turkmenistan was $122.9 million in January-August 2016, including transit transportation worth $74.5 million, export transportation worth $42.3 million and import transportation worth $6.1 million.

The total volume of these services increased by 8.8 percent in comparison with January-August of 2015.

This happened mainly due to a 7.2 percent increase of the volume of services on transportation of transit cargo, which occupies 60.6 percent in the total volume of cargo transportation services, as well as due to a 43.8 percent growth of export cargo volume.

The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan also reported that in January-August 2016, all kinds of transport (other than pipeline) transported more than six million tons of export cargo, which is 6.7 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

Export shipments were carried out by water transport (52.1 percent), car transport (29.6 percent), as well as rail transport (18.2 percent) and air transport (0.1 percent).

More than 3.1 million tons of import goods were transported in January-August 2016, which is 25.3 percent less than in the same period of 2015.
