Azerbaijan to strengthen monitoring on access to healthy food (Exclusive)

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is planning to provide support to Azerbaijan in the establishment of food and nutrition governance systems.

FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Vladimir Rakhmanin made the remark in an exclusive interview to Trend.

Rakhmanin explained that accordingly the access of society to healthy food without interruption and its use in full effectiveness including vitamins and minerals will be closely monitored by the Government involving all the relevant institutions. As a result, the government policies will be designed more efficiently, he added.

"We will continue to support the Government of Azerbaijan to achieve its goals in improvement and maintenance of food and nutrition security and food safety," Rakhmanin said.

He stressed that achieving healthy diets, adequate nutrition, good health and wellbeing for all in a sustainable manner while managing responsibly natural resources are at the core of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

"Yet, the human food value chains are continuously threatened by outbreaks of transboundary pest and animal diseases," he said, adding that FAO addresses threats to the human food chain in an integrated and interdisciplinary manner.

Azerbaijan has been a member of the FAO since 1995. The organization's office in the country has been operating since 2007.
