Kazakhstan achieves highest air traffic figures in 25 years

In January 2018, Kazakhstan’s passenger traffic in air transportation amounted to 586,600 people, which is 19 percent more than in the same period of 2017 (491,400 people), the Committee on Civil Aviation of Kazakhstan said in a message.

In 2017, the total air passenger traffic of the country amounted to 7.4 million passengers.

"The growth of the indicator in 2017, compared to 2016 was 23 percent, which is the best result for the last 25 years. The growth of transit passenger traffic amounted to 30 percent, cargo transportation - 24 percent. By 2020, it is planned to increase passenger air transportation by 35 percent, air transit of passengers by more than 2.5 times and cargo transportation by 2 times," the committee said.

Previously, Kazakhstan had successfully passed an audit on aviation security of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and confirmed the high level of compliance with international standards.

"The level of compliance of the Civil Aviation Committee under the Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan with the requirements of ICAO officially amounted to 83 percent, which is a 21 percent higher result than in 2009 (62 percent)," the message said.

At the same time, Kazakhstan’s improved air transportation indicator exceeds the world average level, which is 72 percent, by 11 percent.
