Average monthly unemployment benefit up in Azerbaijan

As of March 1, 2018, some 37,700 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 36.5 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report as of January-February 2018.

According to the report, the number of unemployed in the country increased by 7 percent compared to January-February 2017.

The average monthly unemployment benefit is 361.3 manats in Azerbaijan in January-February 2018 which is 26.2 percent more than in January-February 2017.

As of early March 2018, the economically active population exceeded 5.07 million people.

As of March 1, 2018, over 1.5 million people accounted for hired workers, including 881,000 people - in the public sector and 627,400 people - in private sector.

Some 33,800 people accounted for those working in the oil sector, while over 1.47 million people - in the non-oil sector.

Among hired workers 22.2 percent accounted for those working in the production spheres, including 5.9 percent in construction, 6.7 percent in processing industry, 3.2 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.2 percent - in the mining industry, 2.4 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 1.8 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.

Around 22 percent account for the hired workers involved in education, 19.3 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.7 percent - medical and social services, 7.2 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.7 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.6 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.4 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.8 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering, 1.3 percent - real estate transactions, and 1.1 percent - other areas.
