Green tea leaves production increases by almost 40% in Azerbaijan

The agricultural production value stood at 4.7 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-August 2018, which is by 4.2 percent more than in the same period last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

In the reporting period, plant growing increased by 5.8 percent (to 2.39 billion manats), while livestock production – by 2.6 percent (to 2.39 billion manats).

During the reported period, harvesting crops continued in Azerbaijan.

During the reported period, nearly 3 million tons of grain and legumes (excluding corn) were harvested from the fields. Some 29.2 centners of products were harvested from each hectare of the territory. In addition, 14,000 tons of corn were harvested from the territory of 3,100 hectares in the reporting period.

In particular, during the reported period, 3,036,200 tons of grains and legumes were harvested (13.5 percent increase for a year). Average productivity per hectare was 29.2 centners.

Since the beginning of the harvest season up to September 1, 1,153,300 tons of vegetables (increase per year - nine percent), 642,800 tons of potatoes (a decrease of 9.1 percent), 372.2 tons of melons 7.1 percent), 262,200 tons of fruits and berries (an increase of 0.8 percent), 37,800 tons of grapes (an increase of 0.3 percent), 695.1 tons of green tea leaves (an increase of 37, 2 percent), 90,300 tons of sugar beet (an increase of 46.1 percent), 21.1 tons of sunflower (a decrease of 24,200 tons), 157 tons of cotton (a decrease of 66.3 percent) and 3,000 tons of tobacco (an increase of 1.3 percent) have been harvested.

During the reported period, Azerbaijan produced 322,900 tons of meat (an increase of 3.3 percent), 1,365,300 tons of milk (an increase of 1.2 percent), 1,162,400,000 eggs (an increase of 0.7 percent) and 15,200 tons of wool (a decrease of 1.3 percent).
