French rail giant Alstom is continuing to produce remaining locomotives under the contract with Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), Alstom told Trend.

“Currently 50 Prima T8 freight locomotives KZ8A and 20 passenger locomotives KZ4AT, 2,720 point machines are in commercial operation. We are continuing to produce remaining locomotives and point machines in frame our contract with KTZ,” said the company.

“We as well are in negotiations with KTZ regarding signaling modernization of Kazakhstan Railways.”

Alstom entered Kazakhstan’s railway market in June 2010 together with its Russian partner Transmashholding (TMH), by laying the first stone of the EKZ facility in order to build locomotives for the Kazakh network.

Earlier, member of the company’s Board Philippe Delair said that Alstom plans to start implementation of two projects in Kazakhstan’s Almaty.

"There are two projects that we can work on together. The first is to help modernize the railway infrastructure. There is a high need for good railway infrastructure for all industries," he noted.

"The second project relates to light rail transport in Almaty," Delair said.

He added that the consortium consisting of several foreign partners is ready to cooperate in the framework of public-private partnership, subject to the coordination of certain parameters.

Founded in 1928, Alstom develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector. The company offers a complete range of solutions (from high-speed trains to metros, tramways and e-buses), passenger solutions, customized services (maintenance, modernization), infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions.
