During the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Iran exported 14,000 tons of tea worth $18 million, Habib Jahansaz, chairman of Iran's Tea Organization said in an interview with the Young Journalists Club (YJC), Trend reports March 4.

The Iranian tea was exported to India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Canada, Australia, Spain, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Georgia, Jahansaz said.

To meet the internal demand, Iran imported 47,000 tons of tea in the period of 10 months, which is 3 percent more compared to the previous year, he added.

About 100,000 - 105,000 tons of tea are consumed in Iran annually and because the local production reaches only 25,000 tons, the rest is exported from abroad, Jahansaz said.

He added that loans in the amount of 300 billion rials (roughly $7.14 million) were planned to be given to tea growers, but according to the latest statistics, so far, only 140 billion rials (roughly $3.33 million) have been given.
